The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has activated Operation Thunderbolt 2020 ahead of the spillage of the Bagre and Kompienga Dams in Burkina Faso.

The spillage is expected to flood several areas in the Northern part of Ghana.

This follows a report from SONABEL, the agency responsible for the management of the Bagre and Kompienga Dams stating that due to the rate of rise in the water levels of the two dams, they have decided to begin the spillage of the two dams.

In a press statement, the NADMO said the spillage could happen from August 5 to 10, which would inadvertently affect communities downstream the White Volta.

NADMO has, therefore, launched Operation Thunderbolt 2020 to prepare communities along the White Volta for the effect of the imminent flooding that will occur as a result of the spillage.

They are advising residents in the area to move to higher grounds to avoid being affected by the floods.
